International Students

In December 1950, fourteen students from East Europe were enrolled into Tsinghua. It was the first time for a university of new China to accept foreign students. In the past six decades, Tsinghua University has enrolled a total of over 30,000 international students.

In Fall 2015, there are 3,380 international students from 119 countries studying at Tsinghua University. Seventy-nine percent of the international students are pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, or doctoral degrees, and twenty-one percent visiting for exchange, joint research, or Chinese language study. The numbers of the students from the Republic of Korea, United States, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, United Kingdom, Iran, Indonesia, and Russia rank the top 15.

In the academic year 2016-2017, Tsinghua University will offer 39 Bachelor’s degree programs, 99 Master’s degree programs and 82 doctoral degree programs to the international students. In particular, fourteen of the Master’s programs and four of the doctoral programs are delivered in English. Moreover, nearly 300 English-taught courses are open to the visiting/exchange students.

We strive to provide a wide range of activities and an exciting campus life for students from different countries with different backgrounds to interact and communicate. As of 2015, there are 162 students associations and organizations at Tsinghua University, covering five domains such as humanities and social sciences, science and technology, public service, arts, and sports. More than 3000 students are registered as the association members. The international students are encouraged to participate in various extracurricular activities and join the students associations of the University.
